Character, Community, and Shared Experience

Assemblies are a beautiful part of life at Carden Hall, bringing our school community together each week. Students gather on Monday and Friday mornings, while our junior high students participate in a more age-appropriate Monday assembly designed to meet them at their stage of development.

Each assembly is connected to our monthly character theme, reinforcing values such as respect, courage, gratitude, and integrity. Through stories, discussion, and shared reflection, students are guided to not only understand these virtues but to live them out in their daily lives. Assemblies also provide an opportunity for students in each grade level to share poems and songs, growing in confidence and expression. Students in Grades 5–8 practice publicly speaking as well.

Additionally, throughout the year, each grade has a special performance or assembly that is connected to its classroom studies or literature, allowing students to present, speak, and share their learning within the community.

Our school comes together for special holiday assemblies at Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter. The year culminates in our joyful Spring Sing, a celebration that brings the entire community together in song and shared accomplishment.

Athletics

Strength, Teamwork, and Character in Action

Athletics at Carden Hall are an extension of our commitment to developing the whole child. Through daily physical education, campus games, blue and gold competition, and competitive team sports, students build strength, coordination, and confidence while learning the values of teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship.

Beginning in the early grades, students develop fundamental movement skills and body awareness through a structured, sequential program including units in... As they grow, these skills are refined and applied in a variety of activities and team sports, encouraging participation, perseverance, and personal growth.

In the upper grades, students have the opportunity to participate in after-school athletics, representing Carden Hall in the Tri-Way League in sports such as flag football, volleyball, basketball, and soccer. These experiences foster teamwork and healthy competition.

At every level, athletics at Carden Hall emphasize effort, respect, and sportsmanship, helping students grow not only as athletes, but as individuals of character.

Extending the Classroom Beyond Campus

Learning extends beyond the classroom through thoughtfully designed off-campus experiences that bring studies to life. Students visit museums, theaters, aquariums, and other cultural and educational destinations, allowing them to connect their classroom learning to the world around them.

As students grow, these experiences deepen in both purpose and independence. Field trips are intentionally selected to compliment the curriculum.

Signature programs include overnight educational experiences such as the Catalina Island Marine Institute and AstroCamp, where students apply scientific concepts through hands-on exploration and collaboration.

In the upper grades, students may also participate in optional travel opportunities that broaden both academic and cultural perspectives, including a French cultural trip abroad and a Washington, D.C. trip connected to history and civic learning.

Through each experience, students gain confidence, independence, and a deeper appreciation for learning beyond the classroom.

Outdoor Learning

Building More Than Muscles

Unveiled as part of Carden Hall’s 2025–2026 theme, Adventures in Learning, our outdoor learning spaces are thoughtfully designed to support the growth of the whole child. These environments encourage:

  • Physical Growth: Strength, balance, coordination, and movement
  • Creative and Cognitive Development: Imagination, innovation, and problem-solving
  • Self-Confidence: Courage, resilience, independence, and self-regulation
  • Social Skills & Leadership: Teamwork, communication, empathy, and collaboration.

We recognize the essential role of play in learning. Free play, especially in natural settings, fosters critical thinking, creativity, and confidence. It also supports emotional development, helping students build self-awareness, practice self-regulation, and navigate social interactions with empathy and understanding.

Our approach reflects a “safe as necessary” philosophy, where thoughtful supervision and intentional design allow for age-appropriate risk-taking. In this environment, students are encouraged to stretch, try, and grow, as they develop both confidence and capability.

At Carden Hall, learning continues beyond the academic day through a variety of enrichment opportunities. Our after-school programs are designed to give students the freedom to unwind and explore their interests while while cultivating confidence, independence, and connection within the community.

Extended Care

Relaxed, Active, and Social

Our after-school extended care program provides a safe and welcoming environment where students can unwind and enjoy time with friends. Each day includes opportunities for outdoor free play, allowing students to move, explore, and recharge in a natural and supervised setting. This program is offered daily to all students in Kindergarten through eighth grade and no advanced registrated is required.
